Hello, my name is Natalie and I have a 4 year old son. I think he may have autism but I'm not sure, he visits a consultant who says he has communication difficulties and is in the process of a SEN application. He started talking about 3 and a half years old, same time he was toilet trained. He copies everything exactly as I say and has no understanding, just repeats what he has heard. He gets obsessed with one type of toy, for example its spiderman now, everything he does/says relates to spiderman. He finds it difficult to make friends and nursery have told me he's 18 months developmentally behind peers. I don't know whether to go back to the doctors and get a second opinion. I just feel down and stressed because I don't know how to manage him. Kind regards, Natalie

Hi Natalie,

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you are facing at the moment.

I would suggest that you make an appointment with your GP and ask him to refer your son for a diagnosis for autism.

If you want to email me on info@livingautism.co.uk with your postcode I will be able to send you the details of the nearest diagnostician to your area along with some further information to help you with the diagnostic process.
