About Ask IRIS

The IRIS Project is a one-stop shop offering information, advice and support to parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities based in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The project is coordinated by Family Action a national charity that has been in operation since 1869. Family Action has been a leading provider of services to disadvantaged and socially isolated families since its foundation in 1869. We work with over 45,000 children and families a year by providing practical, emotional and financial support through over 100 services based in communities across England. A further 150,000 people benefit from our educational grants and information service. We tackle some of the most complex and difficult issues facing families today – including domestic abuse, mental health problems, learning disabilities and severe financial hardship. These issues have a huge impact on the wellbeing and development of children; and on the ability of parents and carers to make a positive contribution to their community. We work with whole families to help them find solutions to problems, no matter how difficult, so that they become safer, stronger and more optimistic about their future. What we do Ask IRIS is a one-stop shop offering information, advice and support for parents of children with disabilities. The IRIS Project has four elements: The Ask IRIS website that can be accessed by all and contains relevant, up to date information and signposting for families of children with disabilities. A quarterly magazines to all families of children with disabilities – this will also be available on the website. To support the co-ordination of a database of disabled children across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham (information given voluntary by families). To empower families of children with disabilities to have a voice in order to change and shape future services in the County and City.
